A first

We’ve not been in a shop for 13 weeks so this morning was a first. The camper van needed a run out so we took it to Homebase in Alnwick for 9 am opening.

It was well organised, with a man on the door welcoming us in, hand gel, markers on the floor at 2 metre intervals, a one way system etc. We did not linger - just headed for the bedding plants - not much choice but I got enough stuff to fill the pots which had had the tulips.

Although there were only 2 other customers there, nevertheless I felt glad to be home. We got planting and Ros called so we chatted 2 metres plus apart in the garden till it got too cold for us.

I don’t feel I have achieved much today. Nathaniel WhatsApped to take me on an adventure in his spaceship. He brought me safely back to earth for lunch.

Book group 2 tomorrow. I didn’t finish “Lilian’s Story.” It was very well-written and had a great sense of time and place but reading about an abused child who ended up a bag lady reciting Shakespeare on the streets of Sydney was too upsetting for COVID times.

The verdict was mixed on my choice of Excellent Women by Barbara Pym for book group 1.
