Armada!
After sunset, actually after bedtime, a sudden presence emerged from the gloaming.
Canada geese. A whole flock. I’ve never seen, or heard, them here before.
A big flotilla racing towards shore where the freshwater burn meets the sea.
What a presence.
I raced down the garden, too dark to see the camera settings.
A magnificent visitation.
Extra 1: preening and feeding and stretching for maybe fifteen minutes
Extra 2: forming an orderly line at the water’s edge
Extra 3: sudden alert, marching full of intent eastwards along the shore.
Extra 4: taking off as one, circling low over the rooftops then FAST out across the river
Extra 5: finally disappearing in a long honking skein way out West
Wow! What a gift. What perfect synchronisation.
Could almost have been a dream, so unexpected and so soon over.
