While My Guitar Gently Weeps

In a truly contrived manner, I return to the album which provided yesterday’s title - the Beatles “White” album - and select one of the best tracks on it to title today’s offering which is about my 60th birthday present to myself (not discounting Mrs C’s substantial contribution!) It is also one of my favourite songs to play live.
I started to learn to play guitar about 15 years ago - mid life crisis! - and my teacher not only became my best friend but I have had the pleasure of playing alongside him many times over the last few years. I have even been paid to do so on some occasions!!
Whilst I mainly play bass these days, I started on a six stringer (I still have my first Squier Telecaster, albeit with uprated pickups) and like to have an acoustic around the house to noodle on. Trouble is, I’ve never really found one I can totally get on with and this is the latest attempt to buy a “keeper”
For those that are interested it is a Martin SC-13e (I had to buy it as it - quite literally - had my name on it!), a new model for 2020 aimed at players more used to electric guitars. Even in lockdown, my local dealer - the excellent R&T Music in Barrow-in-Furness - had managed to get hold of one and got in touch last week to see if I was interested. Could only manage a very short socially distanced trial out in the street when I collected it (shop was closed but still doing mail order and, for a select few, click and collect). Initial impressions very favourable and was given a good offer for my trade in so the deal was done with the reassuring words that I’d be able to bring it back for tweaks to the set up - if necessary - as soon as the shop could reopen.
As I said, I mainly play bass these days but, having used lockdown to transform my fitness - couch to 10K in a couple of months - I would now like to improve my six string skills. The guitar now sits proudly in the lounge and is fully tuned and ready to go. No other distractions or excuses available nowadays so looking forward to strumming along to my favourite toons over the next few weeks. Don’t think Ed Sheeran needs to worry just yet though!
