The old laundry
Technically this was yesterday when in the afternoon I explored the suburban garden, Pollokshields. The main blip is the heart that the closed gates make on the former Glasgow Steam Laundry and Carpet Beating Works. It’s now an electrical engineering business. This was the beginning of my stroll around Albert Drive, firstly the affluent Asian area with lots of small delicatessens and then the leafy avenue and beautiful villas, each one unique. On the the junction of Albert Drive and Dalziel Drive I found Somersby , the most beautiful house I think I have ever seen, and on the opposite side of the road Surbiton which seems to be more widely recognised. The former is soft yellow sandstone, even whiter in the afternoon sunshine while Surbiton is red sandstone.
I came back via Pollok Park. The extra blip is the Sikh Temple, the Gurdwara, based on a traditional Punjab Temple, erected in around 2002. It’s an impressive building and can accommodate 1.5 k people, although goodness knows when that will happen.
And then there was today which turned out to be a great one for heron watching after a picnic lunch in the tulip garden - first day of phase one of relaxation.
A good end to the day with an invite form Lorne and Magnus to a summer supper in their garden tomorrow. Early to accommodate the sun of which their back garden gets a small amount between 5 and 7 or so. I am already packing my eating kit/utensils.
