Diary of an Edinburgher

More heat!

Another scorcher! Too hot for my peely wally blotchy Scottish skin. Reminds me that I really can’t cope with too much hot weather. So I’m in the right place, then...

We took a walk round to have a look at a painting that our neighbour is swithering about buying. It’s in the gallery, but can be seen from the window. She wanted us to have a look. It looks splendid, but really, she has to decide.

An ulterior motive for walking round that way was to get a takeaway coffee and a couple of pastel de natas. We sat on a nearby wall. We then walked on round to Bruntsfield, buying a large sourdough loaf (which weighed like a brick) and back home across the Links. We sat on a bench for a wee while. Archie sat away from us in the long cool grass under a shady tree. Sensible boy.

In the afternoon he had a bonus walk with Elizabeth while we sat in the sun out in the back garden. Actually, I sat in the shade, listening to a couple of Michael Rosen podcasts, the first one about shop names, and the second one I dozed off. I was pleased to read that he was just recently released from hospital, having had quite a few weeks’ illness with Covid-19.

Last NHS CLAP tonight. Yes, after ten weeks, it’s time to stop.
