You could mistake this for some king of exotic herb or nettle wrapped cheese.

Of course it’s stone from the garden. With a fossilised patina of vegetation- like a sea grass- that is oriented in the direction of the prevailing underwater current at the time this layer of rock was being laid down as mud and sand at the time (immense period) of the formation of the strays that would become the rocks that make up the Tosco-Romagnan appenines.

This is the first time I’ve seen this fossilised effect and very nice it is too.
