Hiding the evidence

Another mostly dull day today; I've been drafting a letter to the Planning Department of Argyll & Bute Council, wearing my 'Keep Oban Beautiful' hat, which when agreed will be signed by several of us. There's been a quite a bit of anger over the cutting down of trees in this area of Oban to build houses. The first house is almost finished and another large area is being cleared - the chainsaws have been going since March last year - and it's hard to imagine any purpose other than building. Several of the trees have Tree Preservation Orders on them, but a tree surgeon has confirmed that they are dangerous and should come down. We in KOB are going to press for more realistic TPOs that will protect whole woodlands.

Mrs M and I set off for our post-lunch walk, but by mutual consent didn't walk down to the sea. That climb back up to the house seems to get steeper with every day that passes! We came back along 'middle-height' roads and saw this huge Clematis montana growing up a tree.

Quote of the Day:

Oscar Wilde, 'The Picture of Dorian Gray' - "In month there will be purple stars on the clematis, and year after year the green night of its leaves will hold its purple stars. But we never get back our youth."
