First cygnet - and a couple of nests

I heard that there was activity at Blackford Pond as regards the cygnets, so I went along after work. I didn't get a great view, but I reckoned this was better than nothing. I wonder if the cygnets climb onto thier mother's back once they've hatched, leaving the unhatched eggs below? I've seen cygnets getting a ride on their mother when they go on the water for the first few days so maybe they've already learned to do it from the nest. I will go back tomorrow to see if I can get a better picture. I've got a couple of extra photos of a coot's nest and a little grebe's nest.

There was a heron in evidence at the pond unfortunately. I know they have to eat too, but I would just rather they avoided baby birds!

There were one or two moorhens around and there is possibly a nest in the reeds at the top of the pond. Also a number of mallards, although I didn't see the ducklings from before - but they were seen yesterday according to Facebook. Also a few tufted ducks, black headed gulls and a herring gull.

I was very much heartened to learn that we will probably start coming out of lockdown from 28th, when we should be able to meet up with a friend from another household and do more outside activities. I'm really hoping it will be OK to go for a walk in the countryside. Fingers crossed that everything keeps going in the right direction.
