Rawhiti
Another beautiful crisp day, first we went to inspect Rawhiti caves. A major slog through bush, then up and up, holding onto tree roots and fronds and trying not to skid on the surprisingly damp ground. An astonishing sight greets you after the cardiac workout - huge, voluminous and oddly enfolding caves, a shock after the bright green and sunlight of the way up. Going back down was even trickier and each of us fell over at one point, luckily no injuries. You can do the walk here
Later we walked along the enormous white strand at Paton's Rock and I reckon we saw penguin footprints. They're nesting at the moment and I reckon we might have to come back at sunset and till very quietly for an hour or two. How Id love to see a penguin - little blues apparently.
