Peru hats

Again on my travels in 1987. I ran in to these two when I was out on a hillside path, and they were on the path above me. They came down to check me out. Somehow without a common language (theirs was Quechua) we had a great chat and took pictures of each other. It was one of those lovely moments. I should have sent pictures back to their village, but I never did. They and the girls in the extra pic were from a tiny village in the back of beyond with no electricity and a rushing stream for water.

We got there by means of local transport (also pictured.) I was standing on the tailgate, when the vehicle stalled and ran backwards towards a large drop. So I jumped off, and they all laughed. (Few were sober.) We stayed with a lovely lady who was still mourning the loss of her husband, and wanted to share her feelings for him with us. Candle light and straw mattresses.
