An older house
One of the oldest houses in Leesburg, this was the log house built by Stephen Donaldson, a silversmith, in 1760. It's a block away from King Street, the main north-south route that runs along the old Carolina Trail used by the Susquehannock and Iroqois Indians. It was also a patent house, built to honor the terms of purchasing a half-acre lot in the new town: a house had to be built within 3 years, measure 16x20 feet, and have a stone or brick chimney and a loft. Quite a few of these patent houses survive around Loudoun County, mostly part of larger houses that have been tacked onto over the last three centuries.
Don't know what Mr. Donaldson would've made of a parking meter in front of his house 250 years later.
Don't let the blue sky fool you - it was gusty and chilly today. I took son D. on his first outing in two months: the dentist. The office is opening up slowly with stringent procedures in place. It was a necessary trip, or we'd have postponed it.
In the evening we were excited to see an indigo bunting at our bird feeder, such a beautiful bird and one I've only ever seen a couple times.
