Waiting For The Ice Saints To Pass
The Ice Saints will mean very little to you if you're not from around here. And by "around here" I'm including the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany, Switzerland, Croatia, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia and a few others.
According to legend/tradition "die Eisheilige" were 5 Saints whose Feast Days fall on the 11th (St Mamertus), 12th (St Pankratius), 13th (St Servatius), 14th (St Bonifatius) and on the 15th of May (St Sophia).
And the weather can often take a turn for the worse around this time of year (including the last frosts) and so lots of gardeners hold off planting stuff until the dates have passed.
That being said St Mamertus must have been in a foul mood yesterday AND today - we've had torrential rain, a short thunderstorm and a howling banshee of a storm for the whole of last night that kept me awake until 4:45 this morning when I fell asleep for 20 minutes. This annoyed St Mamertus and the wind got louder. And so I got up and was working at 20 past 5 this morning. And actually doing constructive work.
G went to our local supermarket this afternoon. Usual precautions for her - mask, trolley and trying to keep away from people. But people here have interpreted the easing of lockdown as "Corona doesn't exist, we can do what the eff we like". And so the supermarket was full. Of families without masks, without trollies, and not keeping any distance.
The selfishness of idiots will be a prime factor in the next rise of Covid-19 deaths. Maybe they think you can't get it because Covid-19 was LAST year's disease..
