In Memoriam
On my drive to walk the dogs I saw this on the road side.
Poor old Sark was only liberated today 10 May 1945. I believe the Dame of Sark made the Germans remove the mines. She was there right through the war. What a woman. The islands were heavily defended so Churchill believed it would have been too dangerous and the loss of life too great to liberate them earlier.
Watching the Antiques Roadshow hearing the stories of all the brave Men and Women who saved us in WW2. We owe them so much.
I hope we get to celebrate with those who liberated the Channel Islands, of which there are just 7 now, next year. This was the 75th anniversary all celebrations were on hold. Thank you for your service we owe you so much. The Channel Islands were occupied by the Germans for 5 years. It was very tough they were very hungry by the end.
