Cream Tea Lunch

A contradiction in terms, I guess, but that's what we had today, thanks to Chris's thoughtful gift yesterday - and very tasty it was too with "lashings" of clotted cream and what appeared to be home-made jam; no ginger beer but we did have lemon and ginger tea.

Chris was the question setter and quizmaster for another family quiz on Zoom this morning; Sophie did really well, especially on the Disney round.

Not long after I got a phone call from Chris saying his car battery had died so I went round for a session of socially distanced jump starting. We got the car to start but the engine appeared to be lacking in oomph generally (notice my familiarity with all the technical mechanical terms) so he didn't risk taking it to the shops. Looks like he'll be doing even more walking until he can get a mechanic to look at it, whenever that may be!

That took care of the morning and this afternoon we took a walk, taking a footpath we han't walked since our last dog passed away. By that time the wind had got up and the temperature dropped dramatically so we didn't explore one or two other footpaths we came across that we hadn't known existed. An adventure for another day.

Kate & Sophie decided to pretend that they were going out for dinner tonight: they've written up a menu and drinks list, written their names on place settings, put a 'reserved' notice on their dining table, lit candles and put on their best frocks! No waiter service but they'll be enjoying their dinner about now.

Today's LP was Carole King's "Tapestry". This track seemed appropriate for the times:

Hopefully, depending on what Boris had to say this evening (in 90 minutes time as I type) it won't be too long before loved ones don't seem so far away.
