TLC for the LR
Stripped off the blistered paint, ground off the worst of the rust, wire brushed it. Applied a rust convertor. let it do its work then primed and painted. Now I could have used a rust remover, never found them to work that well, I could have used a rust inhibitor, with a similar conclusion. A rust convertor (you cant clean all the rust off, it needs some to work) turns iron oxide into iron tannate - a pretty much inert compound, then paint to protect. As it turned out the cross member was sound, it was the brackets holding mud flaps that were in need of most attention. I could have replaced them (cheap as chips) but the afternoon's work will make them last another twenty years and provided much needed lock down amusement.
I was going to give attention to the front bumper but the bolts were showing no co-operation what so ever. May have to apply some heat.
Tomorrows blip may be of a burned out land rover.
Stay at home in Scotland. Be a lert in Englandshire. Whatever a 'lert'; is.
