Glorious weather for VE Day. Such a shame that the whole country has cancelled all the planned celebrations due to the virus.
However, plenty of villagers have hung out bunting and Union Jack flags to commemorate the 75th anniversary.
My day has been much the same as normal. Some gardening then an evening walk.
Walking the direct route out of the village to Little Haldon is a steep climb. I could hear my quarry calling to me most of the way which took my mind off my aching legs and the weight of the camera.
Once at the top of the hill(s) I could see for miles (extra)The dominant trees were at least half a mile from where I stood and my house is way down in the haze.
Looking around 360 degrees, I realised my task was a bit like the proverbial needle and haystack.
Mr Cuckoo was continually calling but of course no where near where I was.
I was entertained though by a hunting Hobby. Photos were taken but too small in the frame :-(
Trudging on across the heath the cuckoo's calls were gradually coming towards me.
Finally I was in a position to get him while he sat at the top of a dead tree...
To make my main a little more interesting I have merged two consecutive shots together.
Here he was disappearing into the now gloomy dusk. I swear he was calling 'Cuck You, Cuck You!'
It was nearly dark by the time I was walking up our lane. Passing a neighbour's fir tree I surprised a tawny owl who flew up onto a tv arial.
As I watched, another adult flew into the tree and I could hear some babies.
Guess where I will be tomorrow evening ;-D)
