Gray Catbird
Two catbirds have returned home after wintering in either Florida or the Caribbean. They are characters with their long legs and tails, black caps, and mewing calls. They are expert mimics of other birds too, if you’re unfamiliar. They love berries, fruit, worms and insects. Here they frequent the suet feeders all summer. They’re quite comical to watch as they fly quick and low, preferring thick dense shrubs, small trees and thickets. They literally “crash” land in to our lilac trees once they’re in bloom and leafed out. You can’t see them, which they like, but you know they’re there! Grace is not their middle name. Enjoy your day!
