Feedback

So, Professor John Hattie did some research into the factors that have the greatest influence on student learning.

At the top of the list came feedback. Student's prior ability comes a close second. My teacher style, thankfully, isn't damaging them as much as I may have thought!

Early morning is the best time for marking. Get in at 7.15 and get an hour done.. A set of books takes about 2 hours and we are supposed to be marking them at least once a fortnight. I enjoy it, mostly, and it is very useful to gauge pupils' understanding. Some pupils' have a complete mismatch between what you observe in lessons and the high level of comprehension they show in written work.

It just shows you that we can all be improving, all of the time!
