A view from Jeanneb

Fandance!

The first morning we were here I looked out of our hotel  and saw groups of people doing Tai Chi in Victoria Park before it was barely light. (The girls we saw picnicking on Sunday were apparently Indonesian domestic workers meeting up with their friends on their day off)

I have watched them every day and although they usually stay more than an hour and little groups pop up all at other times of day, I decided today ( our last day here) to go down early for a close up look.

Apart from the big group on the field there are two groups around the fountain doing more of a dance routine - this morning to Boney M!- and small groups as here using fans or even swords! The dance groups seem to be mainly women but the others are men and women of all ages. I liked this shot because of the colour and he flicked his fan with a snap.

After breakfast we returned to the park to watch the rest of the activities. Their is a jogging circuit - joggers only! - bars to aid stretching exercises, a pebble path for walking on in bare feet-ouch! There is a bowling green, tennis courts, swimming pool and we even watched two old men racing motor boats on a pond. Some people were power walking or just teetering along, one wheel chair bound lady had her carer bring the chair up to the railings so she could pull herself up and when not doing this she was doing arm exercises in her chair. What a very different culture from ours and no one is self conscious whatever their shape, size or ability.

Heading for the airport this afternoon for our overnight flight to Sydney. I have really enjoyed our brief stay in Hong Kong.
