Peacock butterfly
I always associated the peacock butterfly with the July / August period, but have seen a few of them this spring. It seems that these are the overwintered ones that have emerged, will breed and then die. The young that they produce will be adults in late summer, having passed through the caterpillar and pupa stages. This specimen seemed a little odd as the front wings overlapped the hind ones to such extent that the 'eyes' were almost completely hidden.
