At the foot of Mill Brow

You can walk along by the Lune from Devil's Bridge and then go up into Kirkby Lonsdale by taking a steep little lane called Mill Brow. I've mentioned it before: it's where you will find the old Manor House and the remnants of the town's industrial era.

The area at the bottom of Mill Brow used to be quite scruffy but it's smartened up a lot over the last ten years or so, with a picnic area and some renovations and new buildings. A little further upstream there is this little yard, tucked around the back of one of the new houses: it has clearly missed out on the upgrade!

I like dilapidated things, though, and the unpredictable way in which age takes its toll. I guess there would have a time just after this horse box fell into disuse that it could have been towed away and disposed of. Even now, its tyres look like they just need pumping up but I don't think the rest of it would stand even the shortest of journeys.
