Whale Rock -- Cayucos, CA
This afternoon we went for a long, a very long, walk on the beach from our place here on Park Avenue down to the beach lookout landing and then we walked on the south to an easier entrance to the sand on 4th Street. Then we walked to 24th Street where there is a public restroom and a big parking lot for those who arrived with vehicles.
I'm not sure what is more interesting to look at -- the sea shells along the sand, the waves and the way they form and break, the other people walking on the beach, the dogs on the beach with their owners, or the houses that line the shoreline. All of it is so very interesting . . . every shell is unique; every wave; every person; every dog; and every house.
When we arrived at 24th Street the pooches were tired. A large cup of water for each of them and a quick stop in the restroom for the two of us and then it was time to head the opposite direction. The decision was whether to walk back on the sand or on the street just the other side of the houses. We thought the sand would be easier on the pooches paws and of course the sand is much more gentle on our bones and joints, so we strolled the sand with the wind in our faces and the sun in our eyes. Then we arrived home in time to see the sunset from our position here above the town.
Even though sunset was lovely, the photo of the students from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo near Whale Rock is the selection. The first capture shows Whale Rock engulfed in an angry wave and the next reveals the calm. The sea is so entertaining. Moments later in the parking lot, we heard the students tell some others that they were holding class there on the sand. We're not sure if it was an oceanography, geography, or underwater basket weaving class, but they all looked like they were having a good time.
This has been a lovely Friday. Hope it has been for you too.
Good night from California's Central Coast.
