The Great Western

Not a ship this time, but a hotel on the seafront in Oban. It was a strange day, becoming hazy quite early on, and as we walked along the front this afternoon there was just a strip of blue left in the northern sky - it stood out against the white of the Great Western Hotel.

Still warm enough to sit out in shirtsleeves however, and later on I continued with my favourite occupation of potting up, rhododendrons this time as the supermarkets only had ericaceous compost left. My extra today is of a rhododendron by the name of 'Martha Wright', a probably rather tender hybrid of Rhododendron 'Fragrantissimum' and Rh. burmanicum, tho' a good west coast plant. A wonderful scent which reminded Mrs M of Arduaine where we grew many tender scented rhododendrons.

Quote of the Day:

Charles Dickens, 'A Christmas Carol - “Reflect upon your present blessings -- of which every man has many -- not on your past misfortunes, of which all men have some.”
