Chobham

This sign is a couple of hundred metres away from our house. The swamp effect in the copse is caused, we think, by a blocked gulley. Chobham is in the Borough of Surrey Heath although we are just outside the village boundary and therefore come under Woking Borough. Chobham is mentioned in the Domesday Book as Cebeham and was part of the Chertsey Abbey estate.  Chertsey Abbey was wealthy and influential but eventually fell foul of Henry V111 and his dissolution of the monasteries. We have lived in Chobham since 1992 and are no doubt still regarded as incomers by some of the older residents.
