Bee-fly ?
I've been fascinated by these little insects for several days now, so tiny and moving so quickly, even when collecting nectar their wings are still beating constantly. Difficult to capture as it is constantly darting, hovering and then collecting the nectar.
I believe it to be a Bee-fly, the body length is just 10-12mm excluding the proboscis which adds another 6mm.
Another busy day in the garden pricking out more seedlings (I've run out of space in the greenhouse now), painting the garden shed with Cuprinol and clearing an area behind the garage which had ground ivy taking over, it's so satisfying to get these jobs done especially with the weather so kind.
