Day 32 - Herbert Howells

Day 32 - cycled to Barnes to find plaque for Herbert Howells (1892-1983). He was an English composer, organist and teacher most famous for his output of Anglican Church music. He was born in Gloucestershire and started playing the organ in Gloucester cathedral. He was also influenced by Vaughan Williams at the Three Choirs Festival in 1910 and also by Edward Elgar. He taught at the Royal College of Music while composing organ and choral
Music including ‘Behold O God Our Defender’ for the Queen’s coronation in 1953.

Tasks
- bike ride to Barnes via Richmond. Marred by lots of very inconsiderate male cyclists. Now that Richmond Park is closed to cyclists they seem to have a new ‘circuit’ on the roads around the perimeter of the park.
- cleaned lots of pebbles from the garden ready to paint
- took some books over to grand children and saw them briefly from the garden looking into their kitchen
