Early purple orchid

My first early purple orchid of the year, and the same plant that I blipped on 23 April last year.  The inflorescence is still opening upwards, and this will again be one of the taller plants in the pasture.

It was another warm, bright day. After all that rain through Autumn and Winter, we have now had no rain to speak of for 5 weeks or so.  This means watering activity on the allotment is going up.  As I was digging out the old compost bins at the back, I took a spadeful and there was a toad sat blinking amongst the brown loamy soil on the spade. Miraculously he was undamaged, but alas the camera was at home.
