Mega Cloudage

We woke to thunder, lightening, rain, sunshine and a colossal rainbow. The skies cleared and dramatic things were going on on the mountains. Esme had not had a good night and was up at 5am. We made dens, read stories then went on a long walk so Simone could get a bit of sleep.
We've been trying to do something special each weekend and revived, Simone, rustled up a delicious veggie roast dinner . Another large walk was needed after that.
I've now finished The Mirror and the Light and am devastated - what can I read now that will match up to that! An incredible end to her trilogy on Cromwell, so minutely researched and so sympathetically and expertly written, I am in awe. I was riveted for all 900 pages.
I have been dipping into another book when Esme is asleep - The Secret Life of Colours. Fascinating. Did you know Isabelline is named after a 16c Noble woman who was so upset when her husband was sent off to war she vowed not to wash or change her underwear until he returned.i imagine she thought it would be over fairly quickly but no - he didn't roll back until 3 years later! She stood by her vow and the subsequent colour is named after her underwear, not looking it's best!
