The Big Garden Bird Watch.
Today was "The Big Garden Bird Watch", so here is the big garden bird that we watched. He's a regular visitor, we call him "Yonder" after the one in the Christmas carol. That's got that one over with.
As always for the BGBW, the change in the weather meant that our birds forsook our garden for the local fields and woods; where-as, normally, we would have a dozen or more each of rooks, jackdaws, black birds and goldfinches, today the score was 0, 4, 4 and 0. However, we did manage 13 different species and so realise that that we're very lucky with our wildlife, most people doing the survey manage half-a-dozen birds in total. Success does come at a price, we have a dedicated food processor to crumb the many loaves of bread we purchase each week and a visit to the local bird food emporium sees enough money spent to provide me with at least four new cameras a year - or even four new embroidery lamps! We are connoisseurs of the best brands of bread for crumbing and the birds are fussy, no economy seeds or fat-balls - they turn their beaks up at anything less than the premium grade products.
