Gates of Paradise
This famous Lorenzo Ghiberti sculpture of the golden doors adorns the well-known landmark Baptistery of St. John, in Florence, Italy. The panels depict Biblical scenes.
The Gates of Paradise is the main gate of the Baptistry of Florence, located in front of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. The door—once known just as the East Door—was named the Gates of Paradise by Michelangelo because of its striking beauty.
The painting depicts the baptistry, and the extra photo shows the actual panels of the door. I had the good fortune to visit the Baptistry in 1970. It seemed an appropriate photo to share on blip at Easter.
