Crown of Thorns
A lovely, warm, sunny day
In the morning, we had a virtual 'Coffee 'n Chat' with some folk from the church - it is good to keep in touch this way.
In the afternoon, we had a two and a half mile walk, along a path which led to an area of rough ground, which was obviously used by mountain bikers - several very scarily steep hillocks. It was a bit of an adventure finding our way out of the area. It involved crossing a stream, using a narrow wooden plank, which was obviously there for this purpose. This led us back to the main road, which takes us back to our Estate.
Before we got to our house, we chatted for a while to neighbours, whom we hadn't met before - another benefit of the lockdown. We were at a safe distance the whole time lol
In our garden we have a Pyracantha bush, which has these very sharp thorns (best viewed in large screen, if possible). They reminded me of the Crown of Thorns which had been placed on Jesus' head at His Crucifixion. The torture and pain of this must have been horrendous, yet he wore it with dignity - even saying, 'Father, forgive them, they don't know what they are doing'.
Tonight, my wife and I are leading a virtual Good Friday Service - another opportunity in these troubled times to recognise the awesome love of God's Son, displayed on Calvary.
