The Old Man Cactus
Cephalocereus senilis
The Old Man Cactus comes from Eastern Mexico. It is threatened in the wild but as it is so popular throughout the world among cactus collectors it is very widely propagated by nurserymen.
In the wild it can grow up to 15 metres tall. It is popular because of its shaggy white coat which makes me think of Einstein in his old age.
Unfortunately it does not flower until it is 10 to 20 years old so there is no chance of it doing so in my greenhouse.
This one has been on a sunny windowsill all winter and it is anxious to go out into the greenhouse as it likes lots of light. Another couple of weeks.
