LOCK DOWN – DAY 6

Sooooo........... now we're being told that this lockdown could go on for 12 weeks??!!! 12 weeks? Ann's struggling after 6 days, though I have to say it's pretty good for us doggies. We get to have our humans around with us all day and I'm getting about 3 hours of walks a day.



This morning Ann had the good idea of taking me to the park first thing this morning. When I say first thing, it was actually 8.30am but as the clocks went forward we reckoned that most people would still be in bed because they'd think it was 7.30am. And what a lovely play I had. There were a few other dog walkers about but nothing like the hoards of people who are descending on every single open space in Edinburgh. It will be really interesting to see how many people are still out and about once this is all over.



This afternoon I trekked around the streets on my lead for about an hour and a half. It's been a lovely day so it was mega busy but we swear some of these dogs never normally get a walk. We never knew there were so many dogs in Edinburgh.



I briefly got left 'home alone' this morning while Ann went and did a supermarket shop. She was going to go to Waitrose but the queue outside stretched for miles OK slight exaggeration so she went to the little Tesco Metro instead. No queues there, but nothing very much on the shelves either. But hey ho, she bought what she could which didn't include wine and then had to use one of the self service checkouts because there were no staff operating any tills, but the member of staff who was supervising the self check-outs actually had to come to Ann three times because she is very untechie and doesn't do such things as using self service checkouts! #learninganewskill



All of a sudden, things that Ann (as a single person) has just taken for granted, like doing one supermarket shop a week and loading everything into the car, has now become a really stressful activity. Because she's shopping local she can't carry as much as she would have, had she bought enough for the whole week. So now she's going to have to go out again. Is it better to shop local 2-3 times a week or is it better to go out in the car to a big supermarket and get everything all at once? We've not been out in the car for more than a week. Which in itself will pose another problem. Does Ann actually have to go out and rev up the engine every now and again to make sure the car is still working?



Oh and the other thing, just to mention, while we're having a bit of a RANT....................... One of Ann's sisters has three kids. They're all back home from uni so in effect she has 5 adults in her house who are all eating every single meal at home. Ann's never done an online shop in her life and so now wishes that she had but apparently the online supermarkets are limiting orders to 80 items (the average is usually 60 but has gone up to 120) but is that really taking into account that everyone is now eating every single meal at home?



Ann's other sister lives with her partner in the middle of the North Yorkshire Dales and her life hasn't really changed much at all because she's pretty much permanently self isolating there anyway. Lol!!!



It really is us 'city people' who are having to adapt to major changes in our lives. All Ann's socialising & income revolves around eating and drinking. And going to her fitness club. And working on the front-line with visitors from abroad. And walking me. And renting out her house in Cornwall. All that has had to change in the space of less than a week. …................Our daily routine has changed beyond all recognition in such a short space of time.



It's no wonder Ann's having a mega meltdown every day. She read an online article yesterday that said it was perfectly normal to RANT or cry or drink more than normal or not clean the house or sit around watching TV all day or stay in your pj's or not be motivated or not do anything that you wouldn't normally do, etc, etc, etc.



Hmmmmmmmm................. Ann's obviously in the 'it's normal to RANT' category?!!!



12 weeks? 12 weeks? 12 weeks?
