Saturday: Perennial Vegetables

I’ve mentioned perennial vegetables a lot in my blips over the past few years, to answer a question from my Blip friend Ceridwen these are some of the “perennial” veggies I grow. Some of the plants self seed so I’m including them in this collection.

Buckshorn Plantain - which I started off last year https://www.blipfoto.com/entry/2590642013678338264 - tasty young leaves, makes lots of seeds.

Red-veined Sorrel, also called “Bloody Dock” - started it off 5 years ago, seedlings pop up everywhere now, nice salad leaf in winter and early spring.

Pea shoots which I started off in a tub in the greenhouse last October, think I started eating them late November and have been having at least one portion every week and more frequently this month - still plenty to eat then I’ll let the peas grow on to flower and pod. Mixed salad leaves and rocket still going strong too.

Wild garlic has only been here since MrD put up the new fence 4 yrs ago, it’s self seeding nicely and I might crop small amounts of it. Planning on saving seed too and starting some off in pots.

Wild Sea Cabbage, - started off in 2016 https://www.blipfoto.com/entry/2242689199788523651 - I have 2 good plants, pick small leaves all year round and couple of days ago had flowering heads as sprouting broccoli https://www.blipfoto.com/entry/2689929062947753262 - have tried taking cuttings but not succeeded so far, might buy more seeds https://backyardlarder.co.uk/2013/10/wonderful-wild-sea-cabbage/ - this is alternative seed supplier https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Brassica-oleracea-ssp-Oleracea-Wild-Cabbage-Ex-Whitby-England-35-SEEDS/264411437232?hash=item3d902658b0:g:eGQAAOSwB-ZdPHhy

Extra photo is of old freezer drawers from my friend, used successfully last year to protect seedlings from cats & hopefully for years to come.

Wishing everyone a Happy, Peaceful & Relaxing weekend.
Stay healthy and happy everyone :-)
Nos da pawb / goodnight all xx
