John Rennie Memorial

On our way past East Linton we passed an 'installation' that appeared to be a sundial - or a birdbath - Mr Flum stopped the car for me to have a closer look. Unfortunately the sky was overcast so the lighting was poor.
It is well-documented as the memorial to John Rennie,  who was a Civil Engineer born a few metres away from this memorial, at Phantasssie Farm. He spent much time and his vacations with a millwright on the Pantassie Estate, using his original ideas to modify their designs. He became well-known for his work on canal and bridge building, his design of Waterloo Bridge being considered his finest, hence the baluster on the memorial. 

Taking the advice of Michael Gove on this morning's BBC Breakfast, we chose our One Exercise at Tyninghame, following the path to the North from the car park though cutting through the coppice, colonised by primroses - yellow, purple and hybrid. Our walk did not take us as far as the beach but we returned through woods to the main path. We met only one other couple and exchanged greetings from a very safe distance. Along the way I picked nettles to use as a green vegetable; having used wild garlic successfully I decided to continue with foraging to extend the variety of fresh foods and reduce demand on our support-systems.
 To leave the carpark  we had to remove cones across the access road,  a notice announcing that the carpark was closed due to the COVID-19 Virus. Only much later did we discover that the road had been subject to mass double-parking only yesterday - we were lucky. A collage of the more significant views appears as an extra.

We had a nice WhatsApp  video chat with Miss Flum this evening, she is working from home, which is tedious when also living alone, it was lovely to see her.
