Maths

Today was the first ‘school’ day of distancing / isolating.

We were not sure what to expect from school but they have sent us some tasks online and MrsCyclops and CyclopsJnr worked through them. It was good – they were quite broad tasks so we could expand or contract them as we wanted to and we were able to choose which to do. We will get some new ones each day of term.

CyclopsJnr was keen to get started, and asked to do more at 5pm long after I thought we'd finished. Today MrsCyclops and CyclopsJnr did the school work together, which is good to get into the swing of things and it seemed to go well and be quite enjoyable. How we go ahead with that might depend on if MrsCyclops has work to do or not. Things seem to be a bit on hold just now. But Cyclops has some flexibility too, and we’ll hopefully find a bit of a rhythm so CyclopsJnr can be doing some tasks independently. We’ll just have to see what feels best to get through it.

We also have a little side project, we have printed out lots of topics on slips of paper and put them in a bowl. So each day when we want to do our project we will pick a random topic from the bowl then we research it (pictures/videos/info online) then do some sort of activity inspired by the research.

Today’s topic was Igloos. We looked at how they arranged their bricks in a strong pattern to build an igloo and we did the same pattern with Lego, then built a Lego igloo and played with it.

We three also did the first run of couch to 5k today. Cyclops – the expert – told us when to start and stop. The five year old and MrsCyclops were about equally able for this. Will we do more….? Will we be allowed out to do more…?
