Mission Accomplished

Thank you so much for all your comments on my blip milestone yesterday.  I was really overwhelmed by your kindness.

Today has felt quite adventurous given the current circumstances.  First thing we drove up to my workplace so I could collect the plants in my office.  I didn't like the thought of leaving them there to die over these coming months.  Plant rescue mission accomplished we moved on to the house at Liss to pick up a few supplies that might be handy whilst the shops are low on products (and to check on the house).  'Seized items' included washing powder, a jar of marmalade, dried egg noddles and a tin of powdered custard (to accompany all the rhubarb we have at the allotment!). What a strange (and hopefully unnecessary) thing to be doing!

Later I went to the allotment and picked leeks, spinach and Swiss chard along with, you've guessed it, lots of rhubarb.  The allotment feels more precious than ever now - not only to supply food but also as a place of escape in the fresh air.  The soil has gone very quickly from being sodden to quite dry on top where the wind and warmer temperatures have dried it out.  I had quite a time smashing up the top soil so I could plant some shallots.  Hopefully they will grow.

As we walked with Merlin today I saw this nest in the hedgerow. It may be from last year, but coupled with the hint of fresh green leaves, I thought it a poignant symbol of new life and hope.

Take care and wishing you happiness on this Saturday evening.
