Today a spike in cases here, borders being closed to foreigners, the queue for masks at the local pharmacy returned. It does feel quiet. Text messages drifting back towards the west, looking for news, wondering how people are doing. It's an odd feeling, distances intruding despite the new technologies which make it so much easier to communicate. At some point I remembered trailing around Gdansk looking for a phone, postcards and letters arriving delayed by weeks from the events and places which they described. But that was then, it was just the way things were and now, now we've grown used to the world shrinking and shocked that it's grown back to the size it used to be, that distances have reformed themselves.
