Derelict Petrol Station / Little Chef

Today I had a wander up to this old petrol station and former Little Chef restaurant. They closed in 2002 and have been vandalised and set on fire since then. The site is rather optimistically up for sale. Main shot is of the old petrol station - the Little Chef is in extras.

It suffered as a result of road improvements before closure. As part of the upgrade of the A1 to A1(M) a link road was built from the new A1(M) to the A64 and it completely bypasses this site. Prior to that it had been a busy place with traffic heading to the coast driving past the door - having to come off the A1 and join the A64 at Bramham Crossroads.

The ‘Subway’ spoof made me smile.

I spent some time making chicken stock and then some carrot and coriander soup - ready to start filling the freezer in case we are unable to get out.
