Here there and everywhere

Lockdown Day 1

Day 1 of the lockdown here in Spain. Our brief outing today was to the supermarket round the corner. There was a tension in the air, more people wearing masks than before and you were counted in and out the supermarket, given plastic gloves as you entered and most people were respecting the 2 metre space between people. You could see that nobody was enjoying the shopping experience - unusual for the Spanish. Everyone just wanted to get in and out. As from Monday, you can only go out one by one. This is presumably to avoid people making a social outing out of it, sitting on a street bench etc and quite simply to reduce the number of people going out.

My blip’s of Calle Numancia, a normally busy street, near our house at 12.45 today.

Our dinner tonight was a cheese plate, Spanish ham, bread and some red wine. It was interrupted at 10pm by people going out on their balconies to applaud and show solidarity, which we then took part in. I hope there will be some music before the end of these weeks, like the video from Italy that’s going around social media.

Inconvenient as it might be, I think the lockdown is a wise decision.
