Entering the core!
A brilliant day but a long one so posting late.
Started with a two mile walk across Hyde Park to the V&A museum where we had timed tickets for the ‘Car’ exhibition. Admittedly Chris’s choice but it was very interesting and well done. It wasn’t just about the development of cars but their influence on design in the early 20th century and the impact of mass production and automation on our lives.
When we came out so had the sun, so we crossed to the Natural History Museum and had a coffee sitting in the spring sunshine.
Inside, our first stop was the dinosaur exhibition. Great fun and most informative. I did think the animated T rex was pretty similar to the one in Leeds before Christmas!
A bite of lunch in the Darwin Centre and then off to the Red Zone at the other end of the building (no need to stop at the Wildlife Photographer of the Year as we saw it in Bristol last month)
This was one way to enter the Volcano and Earthquake floor from the Earth Hall. An escalator going up through the core of the earth. We did it twice.! I thought it was brilliant, as was the whole geological exhibition. It’s my first time inside the Natural History Museum and it was well worth the visit.
We headed back alongside the Serpentine through Kensington Gardens with a short diversion to the Diana memorial fountain. I remember seeing this when it was new and seemed to be causing some controversy. It was better than I remembered and created a peaceful oasis.
We saw and heard parakeets both yesterday and this morning in the gardens but the sight of them being hand fed in large numbers came as a bit of a surprise. We did see a gentlemen feeding birds in the morning, Blue Tits landing on his hand, maybe this was the same guy.
Accidentally came across Peter Pan which we had commented on missing yesterday. Many years ago we brought the children to London for the weekend to see Starlight Express and took Alex to the Science Museum. All Grace wanted to see was the Peter Pan statue.
Popped in the Swan again for a drink and decided to eat there. Good pub grub and near to the underground station as we were heading to the theatre tonight.
A fabulous end to our day - David Mitchell in ‘Upstart Crow’. Very clever and funny and, as it’s only a short run, one of the main reasons for our coming on this visit.
Think I’m ready for bed, certainly my feet are!
Thank you for all the stars and hearts for my Albert Memorial blip yesterday.
