American Goldfinch
In the past goldfinches always migrated south for the winter and much like the robin we would rejoice their return in the spring. But for the past few years they have remained, even tolerating bitter cold temperatures. It’s been strange to see them because I still associate them with warm weather. I keep the feeders filled with seed and suet, and we added an electric birdbath this year to provide open water for drinking, bathing, even a bit of warmth on a cold winter’s day.
