Cylinder platform escapement
I stripped down and cleaned this carriage clock today including the cylinder platform escapement on the top. Older carriage clocks do not have the ubiquitous lever escapement but this less efficient model. Underneath the hairspring is an arbor with a metal half cylinder which is impulsed by the club toothed escape wheel. Each tooth in turn enters the rotating half cylinder, gives it a push and then exits. It is a clever design but tends to wear and is somewhat inaccurate so it became obsolete. There are some nice animations online that show how it works.
