The Old Forge (Saturday 22nd February 2020)
After the installation hiccups, the new solar battery has been doing its thing for three days now, and I have installed the app that monitors what it does. Next month my dual fuel accounts will be switched so that surplus energy can be sold to the grid more effectively, and in a month or two a smart meter will be installed and the app will be a lot more comprehensive.
This flow chart gives a snapshot of the system at 1724 hr today. The solar panels (shown in amber at the top) can provide up to 4,000 W at their peak but have closed down for the day without exceeding 1,350 W on this grey cloudy day. The various appliances in the house are using 389 W, almost all drawn from the battery (which reached 76% capacity during the day), with the national grid providing just 4 W to the mains, instead of 385 W without the battery. The arrows show the directions of travel.
Watching it updating live is strangely addictive.
