Rule No.1 ..............
The Judge Is An Idiot (but more of that later)
It was a strange morning when I took PD out this morning - nice blue sky and very crisp and frozen under foot - apart from some area where there was standing water a fraction of an inch deep with not a hint of ice.
When I came across the snowmen I thought the paths of clear grass were caused by the snow being rolled up to make the snowmen - No, there were where there was standing water. You can just see a couple of them behind the shot of the natty headgear. I was expecting to see a few trees down after the news and weather people giving the stories that we had all suffered dreadfully during the storm. This was the only one I saw. Hardly a major incident.
The lunchtime walk was a bit whiter but there still wasn't much lying.
Now, back to the title.
It was appraisal night at the camera club.
I always say that the first rule to remember on these evenings is "The Judge Is An Idiot".
Well this guy was that rule personified.
Every picture had to be cropped and changed. Anything that came close to being white was 'burnt out' and needed darkened (in this one the left side of the whole garlic was completely white with no detail). Any portrait got slated (especially the eyes ……. he used to be an optician and he knows about these things!) because he does studio portraits. I don't think our professional member was too pleased at basically being told he took a rubbish shot and ruined one eye with all his post processing work (something he doesn't do). He also showed himself up really badly when talking about composition of shots of The Forth bridges and the Falkirk Wheel. It was painfully obvious he has never been there.
