Mt Cook

In all it’s splendour, it really is the land that keeps on giving. Had planned on going on a hike up to Mueller hut today and picked up a TA walker who was taking a couple of days off the trail to also do it. We popped into the DOC office to check things out and it turned out it was 2002 steps then vertical scrambling followed by a ridge walk with possible winds of 60km/hr. I very quickly wished him well and set off for the very easy Hooker valley track along with a million other Chinese tourists.
I didn’t really know where it went so was delighted to find this view of Mt Cook with some icebergs left behind from the retreating glaciers. Really, could you get a better shaped top to a mountain? It’s just perfect what with the turquoise ice of the glaciers winking at you from underneath the crust. Not really visible in the photo but as clear as day in my brain.
While not a taxing walk I think the driving/moving around/sleeping in cars/heat seemed to all catch up with me a bit today. Instead of spending the night camping in Lake Tekapo I drove a bit further to find a bed and have arrived at a great wee hostel in a place called Geraldine, bliss.
