The Edge of the Wold

Weather patrol

The Caped Canine* has stepped up his patrolling activities on this extreme weather day. He's switched his outfit for the warmer, fleece-lined number. The bushy tail pendulums more to retain balance against strong gusts of wind.

He guided me up Arnside Knott first thing when it was particularly wet and wild. This shot of him was taken this afternoon when the rain had stopped and there were occasional glimpses of sunshine.

The Gladders' household sits in the lee of the Knott and we were spared the worst of the winds, there has been a lot of rain though, the rivers are high and there's much standing water. The tide was pushed up by the wind, and even three hours after high tide, the estuary was still full of water.  When I went for food for the Caped Canine this afternoon, I didn't risk the main exit from the village, the water across the road in the dip beneath the railway bridge looked too deep. Hopefully the worst has gone through for us now.
