Drakensberg
Left Malaulau for A2 near to capital city Maseru. Water tanks by roadside for people to get water. Kids playground at schools have roundabout to play on which draw up the water as there is a serious lack here.
Across border back into Free State by 10 am We have covered 1904 km so far. Stopped at Pick and Pay in Ficksburg to get supplies as nothing at next lodge for 2 nights.
2 lots of road blocks with army as well as police. Massive. Turns out they were hunting for 80 year old Prime Minister’s 45 year old No3 wife who was suspected of killing or having killed his No2 wife. Heard later she’s given herself up.
We stopped for Lunch in Clarens, an arty town. President Kruger of Transvaal (who set up NP.) exiled in Switzerland in Clarens, died there and his body was brought back to this town which was renamed.
We went throughGolden gate NP. Which is no longer one, as after 1994 it was abandoned. We stopped to view some interesting rick formations at Dolorite Dyke.
Qwaqwa a homeland once. The Falls near there are 1 metre higher than Angel Falls! A big uni there. Govt initiative for solar panels on every house.
We saw 3 big stretches of water which are for hydro power.
Drakensbergs (Zulu) 1000km long (Barrier of Spears)
After a long day we reached our beautiful lodge via a very steep swishy track. What a stunning view to rather highest mountain in South Africa. We have a pretty
little house at Berg Cottages with an infinity rock pool over the hill,
The blip is Shona enjoying the pool. A strange coincidence is that our driver Taurai is from the Shona tribe in Zimbabwe.
400km today.
