Between fen and mountains

Back for lunch

I assembled a clock in the morning and watched the Hive thermostat being installed. There was not a cloud in the sky and no wind so a walk beckoned. I met Tony as he was about to return for lunch and, as usual, he waxed lyrical about the vagaries of the weather. I always learn something new. Today I learnt that 'night moons' i.e. nights when the moon is out all night rather than rising late or setting early, produce heavier frosts which are destructive after heavy rain and that cauliflowers keep on growing during the night with night moons and do not form such tight curds. He says this has been the most difficult growing year he has ever known. Scientific farming ignores local lore at its peril!
