The Old Fish Market

Assessment over, today was our free day. We did sleep in later than we usually would but with a few light sleep nights under our belts and quite a late night last night, our bodies were complaining!

When we did get out, we were out all day clocking many more steps than 10,000. We headed across the bridge crossing the Guadalquivir River to the Old Fish Market (see my main blip). The sun was out, so were the people and I remembered how much I enjoy a city that has a river. The Old Fish Market was lovely, with the sun streaming in the windows, the relaxed atmosphere, not too busy (much less than so than the San Miguel market, Madrid), fewer tourists and more Spanish, and of course a range of lovely fresh little tapas.

We wandered all afternoon in the squares and narrow streets of Santa Cruz and both commented that we could live here. Yes, it gets very hot in summer, but it’s a dry heat. Lunch was in the food market of Triana - prawns in their shells, drizzled with lemon juice, and scallops. We had dinner in a place near the hotel, full of locals, and dined like kings on tapas of roasted artichokes with Spanish ham and deep fried cod, very fresh, melt in your mouth. Then a drink on a hotel roof terrace opposite the cathedral. Olé!
